Sensors for the Facilitator Room

Audio

The audio sensors for the room are a set of AKG C1000s microphones. These are condensor microphones and thus ideal for long-range sensitivity. They have a cardioid pattern and are hung from the ceiling, which allows us to eliminate reflections from the ceiling. The microphones are arranged in the corners of two overlapping squares. This allows for the array-based algorithms described in the audio features section to determine where sound in the room is coming from.

Video

There are 5 SONY EVI-D30 cameras in the room, all pan-tilt-zoom controllable by the system. Four are placed at the corners looking down at the couches and the fifth has a wide-angle view of the entire room. The placement of the cameras and sample images are shown in the figures.
