Quiet Room
This room is isolated from the rest of the lab by glass walls. This
allowed it to remain quiet by virtue of acoustic isolation from the rest of
the lab, hence the name. Ironically, even though it is still often
referred to as "The Quiet Room", it is now home to a workbench for the
various projects in the group that use custom hardware, and is quite noisy
itself.
Historical Note:
This room used to be called the "Piano Room"
because of an upright, midi-aware piano that lived here. It was deemed
"noisy" and banished to another room.
The "Quiet Space" existed in contrast to the so-called "noisy space" next door, as a place where people work
when they weren't in their offices hiding from the hustle and bustle in the
rest of the lab.
