System Requirements

Note    For the most up-to-date information about system requirements, see the support area at the MathWorks Web site, www.mathworks.com.

This section describes hardware and software requirements for running the MATLAB software and the FLEXlm license manager. Minimum system resources are

• Operating system vendors' most current recommended patch set for the hardware and operating system
• 90 MB free disk space for MATLAB only (215 MB to include MATLAB online help files)
• 128 MB RAM, 256 MB RAM recommended
• 128 MB swap space (recommended)

Minimum system hardware and software requirements are

• CD-ROM drive (for installation)
• Netscape Navigator 4.0 and above or Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 and above is required.
• Adobe Acrobat Reader 3.0 is required to view and print the MATLAB online documentation in PDF format.
• TCP/IP is required on all platforms when using a license server.
• FLEXlm 8.0d, installed by the MATLAB installer
• For Linux, MATLAB 6.5 will only run in a glibc (libc6) environment. The libc5 environment is no longer supported.
• X Windows (X11R5)

Additional System Requirement Notes

• You must choose the UNIX platform on which you intend to run MATLAB from the Product List dialog box. This dialog box offers two choices for HP systems: HP-700 and HP-UX. Your choice of HP platform depends on the combination of hardware and operating system that you are running. This table is a matrix of the supported HP operating system and hardware combinations with their platform designation.

• For Alpha Tru64 UNIX, you must install the Fortran run-time shared libraries, which are on a separate disk provided by the vendor, named the "Associated Products CD." The C++ shared libraries are installed as part of the base Tru64 package.
• These library versions or newer are required for Linux:
• glibc 2.1.x or 2.2 (2.2.x preferred, recommend at least 2.1.3)
• gcc 2.95.x (gcc, g++, g77) (If you are building your own MEX files)
• xFree86 3.3.x (recommend 3.3.6 or better, including 4.x)
• Linux 2.2.x or 2.4.x (if 2.4, recommend 2.4.10 or better)
• Systems running Linux on a Power PC or a Compaq Alpha are not supported.
