Netrek: Social Programs

Important tools for coordinating the actions of a netrek team include specialized jargon and an associated set of social programs. Each program includes a set of actors and responsibilities. Some programs:

• OGG selfless assault by expendable players on a valuable target. When ogging a base, oggers will carefully synchronize to maximize inflicted damage.
• CLEAR To displace or destroy enemy units and hold a contested space. It is difficult to hold a position, so usually this need to be carefully coordinated to to be done just in time, but still well before valuable resources are brought into the area.
• ESCORT Escorting a carrier or other individual is relatively simple, but acting as one of many base escorts is much more complex, since the job involves more than just dog-fighting: the escorts must mark cloaked ships for the base's powerful weapons, move would-be-oggers away from the base, and stay far from the base and other escorts so as to avoid a base-devastating chain-ogg.
• TAKING The most basic activity is also the most varied and complex. Involving carriers, escorts, clearing wings and possibly decoys working in careful coordination.
